We all need food to survive. We all eat food each and every day. Sometimes we cook food and dine in and other times we eat out. Some food effects our health in a good way and other foods effect our health in a negative way. The more I learn about food the more I wonder how it is affecting my health. And when I eat with others, I can’t help to wonder how the food they are eating affects their health………..especially when I am concerned about the yeast called Candida.
Many years ago when I was in my twenty’s and thirty’s I suffered from frequent UTI ‘s (urinary tract infections) and vaginal infections, plus irritable bowel, acne, itchy scalp, terrible fatigue, just to name a few annoying symptoms. I had no clue until I saw it and really understood it that I was FULL of the yeast candida and the yeast was affecting my symptoms and yes, my everyday health and wellness. After I realized how my daily diet was “feeding” the candida yeast inside of me and helping it grow and flourish I decided to stop the cycle once and for all.
Looking back 20-30 years it is no surprise that my health took such a turn for the worse. My diet was awful! I was feeding sickness, disease and yes …………CANDIDA YEAST! My days started out with the typical American food diet. Breakfast was a bowl of sugary cereal and a glass of milk. Lunch was a sandwich on a white bread roll with some kind of deli meat and cheese of course. Snack was a sugary rich cupcake, brownie, muffin or cookies. By dinner time I was so full of bloat I really wasn’t hungry. But I ate anyway. Dinner was a combination of fast foods, milk shakes, french fries, macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, pizza with extra cheese and a thick crust, hot dogs. And of course each night, while watching television I had to enjoy a bowl of ice cream or frozen yogurt.
I will never forgot the first person that talked to me about Candida Yeast and how it was affecting my health. It was a Chiropractor in New Jersey and I really did not want to listen to his comments on changing my diet to stop feeding the yeast and the sickness. I liked my pizza and ice cream and did not want to stop. As the cystic acne got worse along with the fatigue, joint pain, bloating, and constant upset stomachs, I gave up and started the change in diet, one step at a time. I actually thought I was doing a good thing giving up regular ice cream pops and switching them out for rice dream ice cream pops, but my chiropractor giggled and reminded me it is still sugar, dairy free, but still sugar. Those kind of treats are fine, once in awhile, just not on an every single day basis like I was enjoying.
The first time I did any kind of natural – minded testing I was FULL of yeast, no surprise, and yes it was a major culprit for my health challenges- Candida Yeast. It first showed up in a stool test. As I improved my diet and retested, each time the Candida Yeast was lower and lower. And my health was better and better. Health was not perfect, I deal with auto immune every day of my life, but the Candida Yeast was making it a lot worse.
So, to keep the Candida Yeast from creeping back into my gut and overpowering my body again, I chose to eat a diet to keep the fungus away. Am I perfect, no, I am human, but I will give myself an A-.
